Our Instructors are a voluntary, dedicated group of people. They work together and support each other to cover classes when another Instructor is unable to take a class due to ill-health or holidays.
Approximately every 1-3 years a New Instructors Course is held.
Trainee Instructors are usually required to have been attending classes for 6 months prior to enrolling in the training course. Trainees attend six sessions of lectures (spread over 6 weeks) by health and fitness professionals and must pass a written exam before proceeding on to the practical assessments. The Chief Instructor covers music selection and routines. At the completion of the practical component of the course the trainee takes the full class with three examiners present. They are then on Probation for 3 months and new Instructors may be allocated permanent class or just do relief, depending on availability and preference.
Our Patron and Founder, Wenda Packard, is also the principal examiner. Wenda has been taking exercise classes for many years and Prime Movers was established in 1986 after Wenda completed a course as part of the Ministry of Sport and Recreation’s “Have a Go” program for the over 55’s.
In 2004 Wenda was awarded Senior of the Year in the category of Sport and Recreation, an award she highly deserves.
In 2018 Wenda was awarded the prestigious honour of an Order of Australia Medal for her service to aged welfare in Western Australia.
